October Walks
El artista Jake Parker creó InkTober en 2009 como "un reto para mejorar sus habilidades y desarrollar el hábito del dibujo". Desde entonces cada Octubre artistas de todo el mundo forman parte de InkTober, un reto que consiste en hacer un dibujo a tinta cada día durante todo el mes y después distribuirlo online con el hashtag #InkTober.
Comencé este reto con intención de hacer unos dibujos rápidos siendo un poco incrédula de mi misma. Al tercer día me puse a dibujar mas despacio e hice el dibujo de mi casa de Torre de Benagalbón –en Rincón de la Victoria, Málaga. Después, fui plasmando otra serie de casas de la zona y alrededores. Entre los dibujos hice uno de este lugar –La Calma– que me ha servido de inspiración y relax este verano de 2016. A raíz de su publicación tuve el ofrecimiento para exponer en el bar y no tardé mucho en aceptar el nuevo reto.
October Walks reúne 26 dibujos que hice durante octubre, la mayoría casas de vecinos, familiares, amigos y conocidos desde hace muchos años. Para mí este conjunto representa una pequeña cartografía de mis paseos por la zona de un territorio que, con sus defectos y virtudes, es privilegiado y que, especialmente en meses como octubre, permiten pasear y reflexionar con calma. La mayoría son segundas viviendas que permanecen cerradas desde final de septiembre hasta la llegada del siguiente verano. Al dibujarlas en octubre he sentido como si hiciese "retratos" de bloques inertes posando para mí. Por ello se muestran solas, sin gente y en su mayoría con las persianas cerradas. En muchos trazos se transmite soledad y al contemplarlas me recuerdan a los ambientes enigmáticos de los cuadros del estadounidense Edward Hopper (1882-1967).
Jake Parker created InkTober in 2009 as "a challenge to improve his inking skills and develop positive drawing habits.” It has since grown into a worldwide endeavor with thousands of artists taking on the challenge every year. Every October, artists all over the world take on the InkTober drawing challenge by doing one ink drawing a day the entire month, after that you must post it online with the hashtag #InkTober.
I started this challenge with the intention of doing some quick sketches, and not believing in myself. The third day I sketched more slowly and did a sketch of my house at Torre de Benagalbón — in Rincón de la Victoria, Málaga, Spain. I was portraying a series of houses of the area and surroundings. One of the sketches is the drawing of this place — La Calma —, a place that inspires me, where I was able to relax during this summer of 2016.
The exhibit has 26 sketches, most of them houses of neighbors, relatives, and friends I’ve known for many years. To me, it represents a map of my walks around the area. Most of them are summer houses so they are closed since the end September. While sketching them in October, it appeared as if I was painting portraits of giant cement bricks, there by themselves. Some strokes transmit a feeling of loneliness. When I stared at them, they remind me of the enigmatic environments of the American painter Edward Hopper (1882-1967).
